Rated 5 out of 5 by from 5 WOOF rating! Being mature 9 and 11 year old pom/chi’s, Mr Bo Jangles and Teddy have had many teeth pulled. Big and standard doggo kibbles too big for our lil mouths! Sometimes we just swallow without chewing! Our human knows we need small tiny bites with lots of flava because we are persnickety with our appetites. Nice small bites, loads of vital nutrition for our senior bodies and great tasting bits for us please! Teddy and Bo thank you from the bottom of their paws!

They are thriving well, their coats look great, and they digest it well. At 2 and 3 years of age, they will stay on this brand forever.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from amazing food We have an 8 lb maltese who only has 4 teeth (her canines). This is the only food she enjoys and can eat without any issues to her gums, or stomach. The kibbles are the perfect size for her, and the blend of food makes her hair soft and shiny.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Our Beagle's Choice We've been feeding our beagle Appalachian Valley™ Small Breed Canine Formula with Venison & Garbanzo Beans from the day our beagle joined our family. His former home raised him on the formula, and now at 16 months old he still runs with excitement to his bowl at meal time. High marks for the Pine Forest® Canine Formula with Venison & Legumes formula, as well. Beagle approved!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only Food Bunny Will Eat We tried for over a year to get Bunny (a small picky Pomeranian/Papillon mix) to eat dry food. We tried all kinds! Every time we give them up him he’s turn his nose up and flat out refuse. We got a small sample bag of taste of the wild at a farmer’s market, and Bunny loved it! We gave him a few pieces and he ate them all AND THEN WANTED MORE! He loves it! For the past 4 years this is the only food we buy for him, and definitely the only dry dog food he’ll even consider edible.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My picky pup loves this food! Since he was a puppy he has been very lucky to the point he wouldn't eat at all. I've tried all the vet recommended brands like science diet and royal canin, but he did not like them. When I first purchased TOTW he immediately started eating it and grazes on it during the day. Thank you to the Manifacturers for producing a high quality dog food that my little guy kove!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Only food our dog has ever known. Our dog has been eating Taste of the Wild (TotW) since we rescued her. We looked at all the available foods and, in my opinion, TotW had the best ingredients for our dog. No grain and first ingredient is venison! Dogs eat meat, and that's what we want to see as the first ingredient.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Wouldnt change it for anything When we adopted our dog this febuary i knew there was no other brand i wanted to put my dog on . I have been a fan of taste of the wild for years. I work at a mom and pop pet shop in my home town and i am constantly telling customers how this food is the way to go. It has wilderness prone flavors that animals are naturally attracted too. might i add it is grain-free and affordable. My animals love it and as a pet owner i love the benefits :)

Rated 5 out of 5 by from Two Paws Up! Got food allergies? This might help! My toy Aussie suffers from multiple food allergies, and it has taken us so much searching and trial & error to find a food that doesn't set off her allergies. We've tried SO many foods, but unfortunately she's sensitive to all of the common animal proteins found in dry dog foods. This is the *only* dry dog food that she'll eat (and she loves it!) that doesn't cause her allergies to flare. It has literally changed her life. I highly recommend the Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Recipe with Venison & Garbanzo Beans. The venison is a great animal protein to try for dogs that are allergic to chicken, beef, lamb, etc. My little dog gives it two paws up!

Rated 1 out of 5 by from I will never feed this to my dogs again My dogs have been eating TOTW for years with no adverse conditions. I received a new bag and suddenly one dog was vomiting and had diarrhea. I stopped feeding any of the dry food and switched to cooking chicken, rice, veggies, per vet recommendation. Did this for several weeks, dog recovered, switched back to TOTW. Within days my other dog got so sick we had to go to ER vet. She had inflamed intestinal walls and pancreatitis. She's at home recovering now and I will be making her food from now on. If you, as an organization, don't feel this is an issue I suggest you read the reviews here:

Rated 2 out of 5 by from Almost ten years and still going strong Joebear my shaggy unkempt dog is a few weeks shy of 10 years old. With addition of carrots, cucumber slices, yogurt and treats he had basically eaten Taste of the Wild his whole life with me. While he is a bit slower, a bit grumpier and a bit grayer he still has lots of spunk. After having another dog with lifelong digestive issues it seemed worthwhile to give him a higher quality food. I have used a couple of the varieties but mostly give him the Appalachian small dog kibble.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from For a finicky Senior Lhasa Apso We’ve been feeding Taste of the Wild Appalachian for small dogs for about a year now after switching to about 10 different brands. He loves it. The kibble is small, and the food is palatable and healthy. I wish the small kibble was available in fish and sweet potato too, but this has some fish in it. It’s a great choice in food for a very picky little dog. Now if he would only stop chewing his feet. This is new and been going on for about a year or so. So I’m wondering if it’s connected to the food in any way.

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My two little monsters destroy this stuff! I had been feeding my dogs the high prairie go several years and these two chow hounds knock off 28lbs in no time. Then I saw that you made the small breed formula, so I switched them over to that gradually. They devour this recipe with equal enthusiasm. Thanks for a terrific product!

Rated 5 out of 5 by from My foster dog chose it! Before my current foster dog came to me, I heard she was a picky eater. Having had several fosters before- with unknown allergies and skin conditions, I have several protein choices to choose from. Taste of the wild is one of my go-to foods, and when she arrived- she had a choice of chicken, lamb, salmon, whitefish, and venison. She turned her nose up at very other food, and chose this one, and ate a full bowl of kibble immediately. I guess she just knows what is good!

Can you help me with how to do the transition from our current dog food to Taste of the wild Appalachian small breed? Thank you so much!

Asked by: Bonnie
Hi, Bonnie. We recommend a gradual transition between formulas over a period of 7 to 10 days. This is in case your pet has a sensitive stomach. You can do this by starting with 25% of the recommended feeding portion of the Appalachian Valley formula mixed with 75% of the recommended portion of the current formula for 2-3 days, then 50% of each for 2-3 days, and then 75% of the Appalachian Valley formula with 25% of the current formula for 2-3 days before feeding just the Appalachian Valley formula food.

We're thinking of switching our dog to your food. I see you have the Small Breed formula. However I was wondering if you have a Small Breed formula for Seniors (dog 8+)?

Asked by: Jen2016
Jen2016, Appalachian Valley Small Breed Formula is a maintenance diet appropriate for an older dog.

Can you give salt content? I have a dog with a heart murmur and needs low sodium food. Or would any of your dry dog foods qualify as low sodium?

Asked by: julie2
The sodium content of Appalachian Valley is 0.40% as fed. Several of our other formulas have lower sodium content than this one, however, we do not have any sodium-restricted diets.

Can I give this specific formula (small breed) to my 2.5lb maltese 12 week old puppy? Even tho this is not stated to be for puppies.

Asked by: Nikki
Hi, Nikki. The Appalachian Valley Small Breed Canine Formula is a great choice after your Maltese is 10-12 months old. Prior to this age, we recommend either of our puppy formulas – High Prairie Puppy or Pacific Stream Puppy. Our puppy formulas provide excellent nutrition for puppies of all sizes and breeds, and have special features to help support optimal health and well-being for growing puppies. Plus, the kibble is smaller in size, making it easier for puppies to chew and digest.

Does taste of the wild have a weight control recipe

Asked by: Renee
Hello, thanks for contacting us. While Taste of the Wild does not have a specific weight control recipe, our parent company, Diamond Pet Foods, makes a Diamond CARE Weight Management Formula for Adult Dogs that is low in fat and high in fiber which may be a good option for your dog.
